What our day looks like: Afternoon Schedule (morning schedule is the same set up)
12:30 -12:45—Arrival and Table Centers (Play-Doh, Coloring, Puzzles, etc.)
When students arrive, they will find their seats and do an activity while they wait for the rest of the class to arrive. Activities include, play-doh, coloring, looking through a book, sorting colors, shapes and sizes, etc.
12:45-1:15—Story Time, Large Group Instruction and Calendar
Each day, students will get a new book introduced to them. The book will go along with the theme of the week and the crafts and activities planned. Large group instruction will also be done during this time, which will allow the class to develop skills that help aid in group discussions (taking turns speaking, raising their hands, etc.) Calendar will also be done during this time, which will help them learn their days of the week, months, patterns, weather changes, and improve their counting skills and phonemic awareness (alphabet)
1:15-2:00— Centers and Small Group Instruction
During this time, students will be given the opportunity to explore the different centers around the room. This is when they strengthen their sharing skills, socialize with the rest of the students in the class, and play with the different toys and stations around the room. During this time, I will also be given the chance to work with students individually and in small groups to ensure that they are developing and learning at their greatest potential. This will also be when arts and crafts are done.
2:00-2:15—Snack Time
Students will be given a healthy snack provided by UDA. Parents are also welcome to bring in snacks for special occasions and birthdays. No peanuts due to allergies.
2:15-2:30—Bathroom Break
2:30-3:00— Creative Movement, Dance Instruction and Tumbling
Students will be taught different forms of dance, creative movement, and tumbling skills during this time. They will learn songs, become familiar with counting music, learn dances of different genres (Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap, Ballet, etc.) and tumbling skills such as forward/backward somersaults, cartwheels and handstands (all done with help by the teacher)
3:00-3:30- Indoor/Outdoor playtime
Students will be given the chance to play indoors or outdoors (depending on the weather) where they can work on their gross motor skills (jumping, skipping, leaping, etc) Games will be played to help them learn these skills in a fun and energetic manner.
3:30-3:45—Dismissal
Coats and jackets will be put on during this time, so children are ready to leave as soon as their parents arrive. A book will be read to them during this time while we wait for parents to arrive.
